Legacy adopts hunting lodge look for Wagner visitation

When Don Wagner passed away suddenly, his wife, Judy, knew she wanted to create a special tribute. She wanted people to know that Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. It would be quick and easy to bring in photo albums and snapshots to show his success, but James Beaton of Legacy Funeral Chapels encouraged the family to go way beyond the simple and ordinary. One of the advantages of working with Legacy Funeral Chapels is its open-minded approach to creating personalized funeral services.

The plan for the display came together when James met Judy at the Wagners’ home to begin preparing for the funeral. James immediately recognized the opportunity for personalized funeral services and suggested they display Don’s trophy mounts and framed photos.

Judy trusted James to pull it off. “He said, ‘We can do this. We can do that.’ He was just a great guide,” she said.

Judy was excited to choose the mounts and photos for display, and James and his staff picked them up and arranged them for display around the funeral home. The only hitch in their plans came when they tried to load the bear mount into James’ van. His van wasn’t big enough, so they made other arrangements for the bear.

When Judy walked into the funeral home to be surrounded by Don’s hunting and fishing trophies, she was deeply moved. “This is wonderful,” she remembers thinking. The transformation of the funeral home added something really special to the day for the Wagner family.

“It was comforting, and a lot of people were admiring the display,” Judy said. Some of the guests had no idea Don was such a successful hunter and fisherman. Don didn’t go out and brag about it.

Judy has been to the funeral home for visitations in the past but had never seen such an impressive display.

“James was great to work with and did such a great job putting it all up. It made it easy for us,” she said.
